My Installation at Elektrohaus Hamburg during Family Unit Exhibition
Chatroulette was created by Andrey Ternovskiy in November 2009.
"Chatroulette is a website that allows for anonymous video and text chats. Visitors to the website randomly begin an online Stranger chat with another visitor. At any point, either user may leave the current chat and make another random connection."
Visit Chatroulette at http://www.chatroulette.com to explore it yourself.
Chatroulette Reflection is the idea of sending the video image of the foreign chatter back to her/himself.
Instead of receiving another persons face the chatter sees her/his own face:
Recognizing ourself bares a lot of our nature: It may be a moment of bliss a moment or a moment of scared realization of what you are doing.
Chatroulette Reflection is about exposing this moment of perception.
I'll show a Chatroulette based piece of art titled "The Internet" as part of an exhibition / party called The Family Unit at Elektrohaus Hamburg. Come and enter The Internet, see The Internet and microinteract via The Internet: Feb 26th at 8:00
Experimenting with different objects for microinteraction.
"The Internet" is a visible marked space at the exhibition. In this space Chatroulette Reflection is shown via beamer. The foreign chatters see themself projected as huge image on the wall of the art space. How do they react? Visitors of the exhibition may interact with the foreign chatter by placing different objects in front of the camera and thereby manipulate the image of the foreign chatter. Attention: When entering "The Internet" visitors of the exhibition are visible to other chatters via Chatroulette.
'A key concept in the social sciences, and especially in demography
and sociology, is that of the family. The family is generally
regarded as a major social institution and a locus of much of a
person's social activity. It is a social unit created by blood,
marriage, or adoption, and can be described as nuclear or extended.'

5-10 artists that don't really know each other, working around each other for a week in a space that is relatively foreign to each of them. Sounds like a nice family outing. Almost like the best vacation ever. Don't forget the sunscreen. Free cheek pinching.
